Example: Alcohol

Degerming - removal of microbes by mechanical means.

Example: Hand washing

Disinfection - destruction of most microrganisms and viruses on nonliving tissue.

Example: Phenolics - Lysol

Sanitization - removal of pathogens from objects to meet public health standards.

Example: Dishwashing with hot water.
